It is for one year only.

An existing MVP has to submit a nomination for you to Microsoft. Once that is done, a MVP Lead in the area of expertise will look at the nomination and determine if they followup with you to get further information. From there you the MVP works with you to build a packet that is reviewed against every other packet for the quarter you are nominated for. This includes existing MVP's whose year has passed. From there a team selects the awardees for the next year and they are announced on the first day of each quarter by Microsoft.

A number things can be considered for inclusion in the MVP packet, blogging, forums participation (answering questions), personal website dedicated to a technology field, public speaking, webcasts, seminars, teaching, etc.. You could do all of the above, and still not be selected as a MVP, it is not guaranteed because it depends on the level of competition you are up against.

You can get more information on the MVP award on the MVP website:

https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/gp/mvpawardintroJonathan Kehayias (MCITP, MVP)https://www.blogger.com/profile/01952834570171793587noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1280552045292386283.post-43106930412400938022008-10-02T14:52:00.000-04:002008-10-02T14:52:00.000-04:00Congrats Jonathan, how do I start the process of g...Congrats Jonathan, how do I start the process of getting an MVP?Alan Speckmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11453736560350955717noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1280552045292386283.post-76836081014582329652008-10-01T11:46:00.000-04:002008-10-01T11:46:00.000-04:00Congrats Jonathon.
